Nick if you just turn the motor drive up to full speed it will impress everyone. That's all you need to do. I'm expecting to see some awesome basketball shots now, whenever the season starts up.
How do I do this?? There is another photog that is a volunteer that has a Canon that is pretty fast and she really wants to shoot basketball. It sucks we're going to have to share it, but I'm thinking I'll be able to get good shots once they start in the Spectrum.
Speed isn't too important. I was only shooting 3 fps. After a few games you will start to know which moments to wait for. On the Nikon, on the left side, top of the camera there is a dial. The top part has 3 buttons I think that control ISO, WB, etc. The base of that dial has a small button you push down and then a wheel that turns. There should be a single and then two other options (I think hc and hs) these will give you a low speed and high speed burst. The 70-200 was perfect on my full frame so I would recommend taking the 80-200 f/2.8 and if you can swing it bring the Arg's D200 with that 24-70 f/2.8 for when you sit under the basket. It might come in handy to be able to zoom out a little farther.
Oh yeah, I have that on there. I didn't know if that is what you were talking about. It is set for 6fps and it works pretty well. I just need to figure out what autofocus settings will work the best.
I used the AI servo mode on my Cannon. It automatically re-focuses constantly on whatever the focusing point is pointed at as long as you have the first trigger on the button held down. You can follow the subject and wait until you want to start shooting. Works real well. I think I used that on the D200.
